Globe Telecom recently teamed up with Nokia to test a new kind of 5G network called 5G mmWave. They did a live trial in Zamboanga City and saw extremely fast speeds.

Key Results of the Test
- Top Speed: Using Nokia’s special equipment, Globe reached an amazing speed of up to 4.3 Gigabits per second (Gbps).
- Distance: This very fast speed was recorded from a distance of 2.1 kilometers (over 2,100 meters).
- Location: The main tests took place at the Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 headquarters inside Naval Station Rio Hondo.
- Long-Distance: In a separate test, which was about 9 kilometers away, they still recorded a quick speed of 1 Gbps.
This 5G system uses both mmWave and Wi-Fi 7 technology.
What This Means
This new technology is important for several reasons:
- Better Service: The Philippine Marines are already using this setup to help connect their base.
- Faster Internet for Everyone: This technology can be used for things like government services, business operations, and giving people fast home internet in parts of the Philippines that are harder to reach.
- More Coverage Soon: Globe is already putting up mmWave equipment in Zamboanga City, Quezon City, and some areas of Rizal. As more cellphones and devices that can handle these high speeds become available in the country, Globe plans to make the technology available in even more places.
