GCash MRT-3 Promo: Your Guide to Cheaper and Faster Commutes This Christmas

The Christmas season in the Philippines is here, and with it comes the legendary holiday rush. Navigating Metro Manila becomes a daily challenge, with crowded malls, festive gatherings, and, of course, traffic. For many Filipinos, the MRT-3 is a reliable way to cut through the congestion, but even the train lines see longer queues for tickets. Fortunately, GCash has introduced a timely solution to make our daily commutes a little easier and more affordable.

As a holiday gift to its users, GCash has launched the “Murang Sakay” promo, offering a convenient and budget-friendly way to ride the MRT-3. This initiative not only helps you save money but also lets you skip the tedious process of lining up for single-journey tickets, allowing you to get to your destination faster.

Save on Every Ride with the GCash Murang Sakay Promo

The mechanics are straightforward. From December 8 to December 22, 2025, every MRT-3 ride paid for using one of GCash’s new cashless methods will automatically get a PHP 5 discount. There’s no need to register or enter a promo code. The system automatically applies the discount upon your exit.

Here’s how it works: When you tap in, a standard amount of PHP 28 is temporarily held from your GCash wallet. Once you tap out at your destination, the system calculates your actual fare, deducts the PHP 5 discount, and instantly refunds the remaining balance to your account. It’s a seamless way to ensure you’re getting the best value for your commute.

Three Ways to Pay and Save with GCash on the MRT-3

GCash offers three distinct methods to pay for your MRT-3 fare, each designed for maximum convenience. These options give you access to a dedicated GCash Fast Lane, so you can bypass the regular ticket queues. Let’s break down how to use each one.

    1. GCash Tap to Pay: Your Smartphone as Your Ticket

For Android users with NFC-enabled phones, this is perhaps the most futuristic and convenient option. Your phone itself becomes your ticket, eliminating the need for any physical card.

To set it up (one-time activation):

    1. Open your phone’s Settings and ensure the NFC (Near Field Communication) feature is turned on.
    2. Log in to your GCash app.
    3. Select the “Tap to Pay” option and agree to the Terms & Conditions to activate it.

Once activated, simply unlock your phone, open the GCash app, and tap the back of your phone on the turnstile’s scanner to enter. Do the same when you exit, and the discounted fare will be automatically calculated and deducted.

    2. The GCash Visa Card: Reliable and Always Ready

Worried about your phone’s battery or an unstable internet connection? The GCash Visa Card is your reliable backup. It functions just like a regular stored-value train card but is linked directly to your GCash account, so you never have to line up to reload.

How to use the GCash Card:

    • First, ensure your card is linked to your app. If you don’t have one, you can order it directly from the GCash app by tapping the “Cards” icon.
    • Once you have your card, simply tap it on the turnstile scanner to enter and again to exit.
    • The correct fare, with the PHP 5 discount, will be deducted from your GCash wallet post-trip.

The versatility of the GCash Card is a huge plus. You can use it not just for MRT rides but also for purchases at countless stores locally and internationally, making it a powerful tool for your everyday transactions. 3. GCash Commute QR: Scan and Go

Another innovative feature is the GCash Commute QR. This generates a unique digital ticket on your app that you can scan at the turnstiles. The best part? For Globe and TM users, generating a QR code doesn’t require any mobile data.

    Here’s the process:

    1. Open your GCash app and tap on “Commute” to generate a unique QR code for your trip. It’s a good idea to download or screenshot it for faster access.
    2. At the GCash Fast Lane, hold your phone up to the scanner with the QR code displayed.
    3. Once the scanner validates your code, the turnstile will open.
    4. Scan the same QR code when you exit to complete your trip. The discounted fare will then be deducted from your wallet.

A Smarter Way to Commute This Christmas

The holiday season should be about enjoying time with loved ones, not wasting it in long lines. With GCash’s Murang Sakay promo, you can make your daily MRT-3 commute faster, more efficient, and more affordable. Whether you prefer tapping your phone, using your card, or scanning a QR code, these digital payment solutions are designed to streamline your travel experience.

Don’t miss out on this limited-time offer. Power up your holiday travels by embracing a smarter way to commute. For more details, download the GCash App from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei App Gallery.
